ESP32‑S3 air‑quality station with LVGL UI, MQTT, Home Assistant

An ESP32-S3 air-quality monitor for the Waveshare 4.3 and 7 inch touchscreen boards, built around a Sensirion SEN66 with optional CO, HCHO, and one electrochemical gas sensor. The firmware runs an LVGL touch UI, a local web dashboard with OTA updates, MQTT discovery for Home Assistant, and optional 0-10V ventilation output, with no cloud dependency at runtime. It is aimed at makers who want a finished-looking device they build and flash, not a breadboard prototype.

The 4_3 and 7_dual_i2c profiles come from one source tree, and the README spells out which update path is safe for which board, which is the kind of detail that usually ends up in a forum thread. Safe Boot keeps a last-known-good config and rolls back after crashes, and /api/diag produces a JSON report that a support thread can actually use. The DAC auto mode documents its threshold semantics (every zone maximum is inclusive, value <= threshold), and the oxygen thresholds cite OSHA with an explicit warning that the sensor is not a safety instrument. Sensor autodetection covers the RTC, pressure, and HCHO variants, so one build works across several BOMs.

Building from source needs ESP-IDF 6.1 with Arduino-ESP32 3.3.11 as a component, and PlatformIO's firmware build is disabled on this source, so the toolchain is recent and the profiles here target only the two Waveshare boards. The recommended build path depends on material that is not in the repo: the enclosure files, Bambu 3MF plates, and wiring guide are backer-only on MakerWorld, so the repo alone won't get you to the recommended hardware. Flashing and updates go through a vendor web installer that requires an Aura Account, and the 7-inch board is damaged if it is updated outside the published procedure, with OTA explicitly not that procedure, so the no-cloud claim applies to runtime only. The GPL-3.0-or-later license is fine for hobby builds, but anyone shipping a modified device has to publish source or buy the commercial license.
