Official Ruby client library for the Postmark HTTP API
The official Ruby client for Postmark's HTTP API, covering outbound sending, bounce handling, inbound email parsing and the account API. It also works as a delivery method for Ruby's Mail library, so code already built on Mail can switch to Postmark with little change. It is aimed at Ruby developers who send transactional email through Postmark.
The account API has its own client class, and bounces and inbound parsing each have their own module, so the less common endpoints don't need hand-rolled HTTP calls. JSON parsing is pluggable: it can use ActiveSupport, Yajl or the stdlib, and Postmark.response_parser_class pins one, which suits a gem that ends up in other people's dependency trees. The Mail integration has its own spec and a separate message converter, so it is tested as a path in its own right. Deprecations go through one module with silence and raise modes, so teams can catch removed calls in CI instead of in production.
Nothing has been pushed since July 2024, so before adopting it, check that recent Postmark API additions are covered and that issues are still getting answers. Most of the real documentation lives in the external wiki, and the README is mostly install instructions, so anything the wiki skips means reading lib/postmark/api_client.rb. The integration tests need a live Postmark server and a real recipient set in POSTMARK_CI_RECIPIENT, so contributors without credentials can only run the unit specs. The README doesn't say whether failed sends are retried, so check http_client.rb before relying on it for mail that must not be lost.
