AlexTheAnalyst/MySQL-YouTube-Series

★ 853 · updated Jun 2024

A collection of standalone SQL scripts accompanying a YouTube tutorial series, walking through MySQL from basic SELECT statements up through CTEs, stored procedures, triggers, and two 'portfolio project' scripts on a layoffs dataset. It's for beginners learning SQL syntax by following along with the videos, not for anyone looking for a reusable tool or library.

The progression from Beginner to Advanced is a genuinely sensible curriculum order — group by/where, then joins/subqueries/window functions, then CTEs/procedures/triggers. The two portfolio scripts (data cleaning, EDA on a real-ish layoffs.csv) are the most useful files here since they show applied technique rather than isolated syntax demos, which is presumably why this has any repo traffic at all.

There's no schema-setup script bundled with most files — only the Parks_and_Rec one creates its own DB — so half these scripts won't run standalone without hunting down the matching dataset from the video description. No comments in the SQL beyond what's spoken in the video, so the repo is nearly unreadable detached from the YouTube series. It hasn't been touched since June 2024 and there's no license file, so reuse terms are unclear. This is tutorial exhaust, not a project — nothing to install, no versioning, no indication any of it evolves.
