Azure Sphere Starter Kit "advanced tutorial" - OLED display + Elevation + M4 + ADC sampling of Ambient Light Sensor
A hardware demo for the Avnet Azure Sphere MT3620 Starter Kit, showing inter-core messaging between the high-level A7 application and the real-time M4 core to sample a light sensor over ADC, plus OLED display output. It's for someone who already owns this specific dev board and is working through Microsoft's Azure Sphere tutorials circa 2019.
The inter-core messaging pattern is concrete and actually shown end to end — component ID, payload framing, and the request/response loop between A7 and M4 are all visible in the sample output, not just described. The bare-metal M4 ADC driver (mt3620-adc.c) is a reasonable reference for anyone writing real-time-core code without an RTOS. Build and hardware setup steps are detailed enough to actually follow, down to which J11 pins to wire for serial output.
Last commit is from December 2019 and Microsoft discontinued Azure Sphere as a platform, so this targets hardware and an SDK that no longer have a future — anyone finding this today is stuck on dead infrastructure. It depends on beta APIs (application.h for inter-core comms) that were never stabilized before the platform was killed. Tooling is Visual Studio-only with no CMake-outside-VS or CI path, and it requires a specific $85 Avnet dev kit you can't substitute. Seven stars and thirteen forks after six years says this never got traction even among the Azure Sphere crowd.
