FirebaseExtended/reactfire
Hooks, Context Providers, and Components that make it easy to interact with Firebase.
A hook-based wrapper around the Firebase Web SDK for React — useFirestoreDocData, useAuth, useStorage, etc. — instead of hand-rolling onSnapshot/useEffect/useState boilerplate. Built and maintained by Googlers but explicitly not an official Firebase product. For teams already committed to Firebase who want idiomatic React bindings rather than raw SDK calls.
Wide hook coverage across the Firebase surface (Firestore, RTDB, Auth, Storage, Functions, Remote Config, Analytics, Performance, App Check) with a consistent naming scheme, so learning one hook gets you most of the rest for free. Automatic unsubscribe on unmount kills the most common Firebase+React bug — stale listeners firing against unmounted components. Suspense support is opt-in via a prop rather than forced on you, so it can be adopted per-provider instead of rewriting all loading-state logic at once. Fully typed in TypeScript with typedoc-generated reference docs for every hook and component.
Explicitly web-only — no React Native or Expo support, so a codebase targeting both needs a second data layer anyway. "Experimental" / best-effort community support status means no guaranteed turnaround on bug fixes and it can lag behind breaking changes in the underlying firebase SDK. No guidance for RSC/Next.js app router SSR — the whole design assumes client-side Suspense and useEffect, which doesn't map cleanly onto server components. No offline-mutation or optimistic-update helpers of its own; anything beyond simple realtime reads still means dropping down to the raw Firestore SDK.
