GIScience/orstools-qgis-plugin
Plugin for QGIS with a set of tools to use openrouteservice API´s, based on openstreetmap
A QGIS plugin that wraps the openrouteservice API for routing, isochrones, matrix calculations, and TSP-style optimization directly from the map canvas or the Processing Toolbox. It's for GIS users who want routing/isochrone analysis without standing up their own routing engine, and are fine depending on an external API (public or self-hosted ORS backend).
Supports pointing at a self-hosted ORS instance instead of the public API, so it's not locked to the rate-limited free tier. Has an actual CI pipeline running pytest across three QGIS versions (3.16, 3.22, latest) plus ruff linting, which is more than most QGIS plugins bother with. Processing Toolbox integration means batch jobs (layer-to-layer routing/isochrones) run without manual clicking, and i18n support (German translation already shipped) shows some thought for non-English users.
Every feature is a thin client over a third-party API, so the plugin is only as reliable as openrouteservice's uptime and rate limits — there's no local/offline routing fallback. The dev setup is painfully manual: hand-converting .ui files to .py with pyuic5, symlinking plugin folders, PyCharm-specific debug workflow with a cherry-picked 'debug' commit you have to remember to drop. Core logic (client.py, directions_core.py, isochrones_core.py) is a thin wrapper with little differentiation from just calling openrouteservice-py directly plus some QGIS glue code. Scope is narrow — useful only if you already live in QGIS and need ORS specifically, not a general routing/GIS toolkit.
