Icinga/icinga2
The core of our monitoring platform with a powerful configuration language and REST API.
Icinga 2 is the monitoring server at the core of the Icinga stack. It runs checks, decides when a host or service changes state, and sends notifications and performance data to downstream systems. It is aimed at ops teams running monitoring across several sites who are willing to learn its configuration language.
The Icinga DSL and the bundled Icinga Template Library make configuration code you can version, review, and generate, not a web form or a pile of XML. Distributed monitoring is built in: zones, TLS-authenticated cluster connections, and satellite or agent roles, so a satellite zone keeps running its own checks through an outage on its link to the master. The feature set is modular, with writers in features-available/ for Graphite, InfluxDB, OpenTSDB, Elasticsearch, GELF, OTLP metrics, and IcingaDB, and CI builds on Linux, macOS, Windows, and Alpine.
The README is a list of links to icinga.com, so the documentation that matters lives on another site and the repo alone says little about how the thing runs. The core has no dashboard. The Director, Icinga Web 2, and most day-to-day operation live in separate projects, so adopting this means adopting part of a stack. The license changed at v2.16.0 from GPLv2+ to GPLv3+, with an OpenSSL exception that applies only to OpenSSL 1.x, so anyone pinning an older release or redistributing code needs to check which terms cover which version.
