Part-DB is an Open source inventory management system for your electronic components
Part-DB is a self-hosted Symfony application for tracking electronic components — parts, categories, footprints, manufacturers, stock locations, and pricing all in one place. It's aimed at hobbyists, makerspaces, and small companies or labs that need a shared, permissioned inventory instead of a spreadsheet everyone edits by hand.
Permissions are actually fine-grained (per-group, per-action) with 2FA support (TOTP and WebAuthn) that can be enforced at the group level — most self-hosted inventory tools stop at a single admin login. KiCad integration and BOM import mean it plugs into an existing EDA workflow rather than being a catalog you update separately. It supports MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and SQLite, and ships a maintained Docker image with a real CI pipeline (PHPUnit, static analysis, codecov). Automated part-info lookup from Octopart, Digikey, Farnell, LCSC, and TME cuts out the tedious part of manually filling in datasheets and pricing for every new part.
This is a full Symfony rewrite carrying real depth (2FA, SAML SSO, API, event log with revert, multi-currency) — a lot of infrastructure to stand up if you just want a parts list for a home lab. The docs explicitly warn the database backend choice can't be changed easily after setup, which is an easy trap for someone who skips straight to `docker run`. It's AGPL, so a company building a customized internal fork has to publish its changes — fine for personal use, a real constraint for commercial adopters. The README also mentions AI-based data extraction and an MCP server for agent access as newer additions to a mature codebase, with no detail on how that access is scoped — worth checking the code before pointing an agent at a live inventory.
