A single-file Python script that turns a webcam into a basic motion-detection security camera, playing an alert sound when it sees movement. It's a beginner/tutorial project, not something meant to run unattended watching your house.

Dead simple to read end to end since it's one file — no framework or config to learn before you see what it does. Low barrier to fork and hack on for a weekend project or a first computer-vision exercise.

No requirements.txt or setup instructions in the tree, so you're guessing at the OpenCV/numpy versions it needs. No persistence, logging, or recording of clips — it just beeps, so there's no evidence trail if something actually happens. Untouched since January 2024 with no tests, no notification options (email/push), and no handling for camera disconnects or false positives from lighting changes. The high fork count relative to stars suggests people are cloning it as a class assignment or tutorial base, not deploying it as-is.
