// the take

WaykiChain is a Bitcoin Core fork in C++ that adds DPoS consensus, a built-in DEX, a CDP-backed stablecoin, and smart contracts executed in an embedded Lua VM. It's aimed at developers who want to run a non-EVM L1 node or study how DeFi primitives (stablecoin, DEX) look when built directly into the base chain instead of as contracts on top of it.

Contracts run in a sandboxed Lua VM rather than the usual EVM/Solidity stack, which is a genuinely different design if you're curious about alternatives to Ethereum's model. DEX, CDP stablecoin, and DPoS are implemented at the protocol level rather than bolted on as separate smart contracts, keeping the base layer closer to a complete financial L1. It inherits Bitcoin Core's build and release tooling wholesale (autotools, gitian deterministic builds, qa/pull-tester), so reproducible builds and cross-platform packaging are already solved rather than reinvented from scratch.

Last commit is from November 2022 - four years of silence on a financial blockchain means no patches for any secp256k1/OpenSSL vulnerabilities disclosed since, and no protocol upgrades. The 'wasm' topic tag is misleading: the actual contract execution (share/contracts/lua) is Lua, not WebAssembly, so anyone coming for WASM support will be disappointed. There's no indication in the repo of whether the live mainnet still runs, who operates it, or whether any exchange or validator still supports it - trusting this for real funds means trusting an apparently abandoned codebase. Docs are split across separate English/Chinese ReadTheDocs sites linked from the README, and given the repo's inactivity those are likely stale too.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
