Repo for my 'Learning JavaScript Design Patterns' book
This is the source for Addy Osmani's free book 'Learning JavaScript Design Patterns' — not a library, but a book repo with HTML chapters and companion code snippets for classic GoF patterns, MV* architectures, and module patterns (AMD/CommonJS), each given both ES5 and ES2015 versions. It's aimed at developers who want a thorough, free reference on design patterns in JS rather than anyone looking for something to install.
The parallel ES5/ES2015 snippets for every pattern are genuinely useful — you can see exactly how modern syntax changes (or doesn't change) a Singleton or Observer implementation instead of just reading about it in the abstract. Coverage is broad: creational, structural, and behavioral patterns, plus a full section on jQuery-specific implementations and MV* architectures, all numbered and organized by chapter so you can jump to what you need without reading the whole book front to back.
Nothing has changed since the last push in 2021, so there's no coverage of patterns that lean on newer language features like Proxy or private class fields, and no acknowledgment of how framework-driven state management has largely replaced hand-rolled MV* in practice. The bower_components directory ships a full copy of jQuery's source and test suite committed straight into the repo, which is dead weight from a build toolchain nobody uses anymore. It's also book source, not a package — there's nothing to npm install, you're expected to copy snippets by hand — and the CC BY-NC-ND license means you can't reuse the text or examples in anything commercial.
