A CLI tool for planning trip itinerary.
A single-script CLI that queries the Google Places API for attractions matching a rating/review-count threshold and dumps them to CSV for import into Google My Maps. Built by one person to plan their own backpacking trip, documented with a companion blog post rather than a general-purpose tool.
The filtering CLI is well thought out for its narrow job — --rating/--reviews with an and/or --operator, plus --exclude for category noise like parks or churches, covers the actual pain points of culling Places API results. CSV output means no lock-in and you can inspect or re-filter results without touching the code. It's one file, so reading the whole thing takes five minutes.
Google Places API text search caps at 60 results per query (3 pages of 20) and the README gives no indication the script handles next_page_token pagination, so large cities will silently return an incomplete set. No mention of API cost controls — Places API billing is per-request and a broad query like "attractions in London" can rack up charges fast with no warning in the docs. No tests, no error handling shown for API failures or malformed responses, and the secrets.ini key-management approach is the kind of thing people accidentally commit. Last pushed Feb 2024 with no releases or packaging — it's a personal utility, not something maintained for other users.
