📶 A curated list of awesome ESP8266/32 projects and code

A curated list of ESP8266/ESP32 projects, firmware options, tools, and libraries. It's a starting point for embedded developers who want to know what exists in the ESP ecosystem without trawling GitHub and forums themselves. Not a tutorial, not a framework — just organized links.

Covers the full stack from firmware (MicroPython, Tasmota, NodeMCU) down to protocol libraries (AsyncTCP, painlessMesh, ESP-NOW), so you can orient yourself regardless of where in the stack you're working. The InfoSec section is unusually honest — it lists deauthers and keystroke injectors without sanitizing them away. Library section is genuinely useful: things like Free802.11 for raw 802.11 frame injection and Wasm3 for WebAssembly on embedded are not obvious finds. Actively maintained with GitHub Actions linting to keep link rot in check.

Several links are already dead or pointing at abandoned repos — ESP-Open-SDK hasn't been touched in years and the ESP8266 Arduino core link goes to the old repo. ESP32-S2, S3, C3, and C6 variants are entirely absent, which is a real gap in 2025 since those chips have largely displaced the original ESP32 for new designs. No quality signal on individual entries — a hobby project with 50 stars sits next to WLED which has 15k+, with no way to tell the difference at a glance. The split between 8266-only and 32-only support is inconsistently documented across entries.
