algolia/algoliasearch-client-javascript
⚡️ A fully-featured and blazing-fast JavaScript API client to interact with Algolia.
The official JavaScript client for Algolia's REST API, published on npm as algoliasearch. The repo is a generated monorepo with one package per Algolia API (search, abtesting, agent-studio, advanced-personalization, and others), each with its own model types and a lite entrypoint for search-only use. It's for developers calling Algolia from Node, a browser, or an edge worker, not for people looking for a ready-made search UI.
- Each package has separate builds for browser, node, fetch, and worker, so the same API surface runs in Node, the browser, and edge runtimes without an HTTP shim you have to choose yourself.
- The lite entrypoint drops the admin and write endpoints, so a front-end search box doesn't ship the whole API surface. For browser search, that's the choice that matters most.
- Request and response types are generated from Algolia's OpenAPI specs, so the models track the API rather than drifting from a hand-written copy. The model directories are large, but every field is typed.
- It ships both ESM and UMD builds, which covers modern bundlers and plain script tags from one package.
- The repo is a generated mirror. The do-not-edit workflow file and the README pointing bug reports to api-clients-automation suggest changes have to go upstream, so a local patch here won't survive the next release.
- The default import pulls in the full client with every API, so anyone who misses the lite entrypoint pays for it in bundle size. Nothing in the README makes that choice obvious.
- The README covers installation and client construction and sends everything else to external docs. It says nothing about retry behavior, timeouts, or host fallback, which are the things you need when a call fails in production.
