A library for debugging android databases and shared preferences - Make Debugging Great Again

Android Debug Database is an Android library that starts a small web server inside the app, so you can browse SQLite databases, SharedPreferences, and in-memory Room databases from a laptop browser. It is for Android developers who are tired of pulling .db files off a device with adb, and it belongs only in debugImplementation builds.

- Basic use needs no app code. The library initialises itself through a ContentProvider, and the server address is printed to logcat after the debugImplementation line is added. Encrypted-database support lives in a separate debug-db-encrypt artifact, so the base library stays small.

- Editing is not an afterthought. From one browser page you can run raw SQL, edit cells inline, insert and delete rows, and change SharedPreferences keys. Search, sort, and download are included.

- It covers Room in-memory databases, which have no file for a file-based inspector to find. It also works on emulators through adb forward and does not need root.

- The README sets up a plain HTTP server with no mention of authentication, token, or localhost binding. Anyone on the same Wi-Fi or LAN can read and rewrite the app's data while the debug build runs, and a shared office or conference network makes that a real exposure.

- Custom database files and in-memory Room registration go through reflection, and every call is wrapped in catch (Exception ignore). If a class or method name changes, the database simply does not appear and nothing is logged, so the failure is hard to debug.

- The encrypted variant takes the password as a plain resValue in build.gradle. That is fine for a sample, but in a real project the file gets committed and the password goes with it.

- The last push was in February 2026, and the README's TODO list is one emulator issue plus 'many more features'. Check the issue tracker and the Android and Room versions it targets before adopting it for a new project.
