Help us take over the world! React + TS + GraphQL Chat App

A full-stack real-time chat app (React/TS client, Node/GraphQL/MongoDB server) built as a portfolio-style project — subscriptions for live messages and notifications, room invites, Auth0 login, optional Cloudinary image uploads. Useful as a reference for wiring GraphQL subscriptions and typegoose entities together, not as a chat platform to actually run in production.

Server modules (room, message, notification, user, invitation) each ship their own test file, and the client has component-level tests too — most 200-star side projects skip this entirely. GraphQL codegen (codegen.yml) generates typed hooks for the client instead of hand-writing query types. Uses typegoose for MongoDB entities, which keeps schema and TS types in one place, and there's an actual rate-limiter middleware on the GraphQL layer rather than none at all.

The README's Features and Tech Stack sections just say 'WIP' — for a repo that's otherwise fairly built-out, that's a real gap for anyone trying to evaluate it before cloning. No commits since January 2023, and the CI badge points at Travis CI's free tier, which shut down for open source in 2021, so that pipeline hasn't run in years. Getting it running locally requires registering your own Auth0 app and configuring callback URLs before you can even log in, which is a lot of setup friction for a demo project. Client and server dependencies (React, Apollo, GraphQL tooling) are 3+ years unpatched at this point.
