// the take
WxJava is a Java SDK covering WeChat's backend APIs — official accounts, mini programs, payments, enterprise WeChat, the open platform, and video channels — split into one Maven module per product so you only pull in what you need. It's for Java backend developers building for the Chinese WeChat ecosystem specifically; there's no mobile client or web UI code here, just the server-side API wrapper.
Module-per-product split (weixin-java-mp, -pay, -miniapp, -cp, -open, -channel) with a BOM to manage versions, so you're not forced to drag in the payment module just to call the mini-program API. A decade of real production use against WeChat's APIs shows in the unglamorous stuff that actually bites people — automatic access-token refresh, request signature verification, callback message decryption — none of which WeChat's own docs explain well. Pluggable token/config storage (in-memory, Jedis, Redisson) means it works for both a single instance and a clustered deployment without you writing that layer yourself. The solon-plugins directory shows ongoing maintenance effort tracking a second web framework's plugin conventions, not a project thrown together once and abandoned.
The README, issue templates, and nearly all documentation are Chinese-only — if you don't read Chinese, you're reverse-engineering Javadoc and source to figure out how to call most of this. It's compiled with Lombok and the README tells new readers to go learn Lombok before touching the source, which is friction for anyone trying to contribute or debug an odd API response. Zero relevance outside the WeChat ecosystem — this only matters if your product targets Chinese WeChat users, so the 33k stars reflect a large but narrow audience, not broad general-purpose utility. There's no bundled demo app by the maintainer's own admission; onboarding means reading unit tests or a separate demo.md rather than running something end to end.
