Godot Unit Test. Unit testing tool for Godot Game Engine.
GUT is the de facto unit testing framework for Godot's GDScript, giving you asserts, test lifecycle hooks, and a GUI panel or CLI runner inside the engine itself. It's aimed at Godot developers who want actual automated tests instead of manually clicking through scenes to verify behavior.
The doubling system (full/partial doubles, stubbing, spies) is more complete than most scripting-language test tools bother to build, and it's clearly informed by RSpec/Mockito-style testing rather than a bare assert library bolted on. CLI support with JUnit XML export means it actually fits into CI pipelines, not just editor-only workflows. Nine years of continuous releases tracked against every Godot 4.x minor version (4.0 through 4.7) shows real maintenance commitment, and the VSCode extension for running individual tests from the editor is a genuine productivity win.
Version coupling to Godot minors is aggressive — 9.3.0 for 4.2.x, 9.4.0 for 4.3-4.4, 9.5.0 for 4.5, separate branches per version — so upgrading your Godot install can silently break GUT until you find the matching release, and the Asset Library only ever lists the single latest version. Doubling is built on runtime script generation via templates (double_templates/), which in a dynamically typed language means mock mismatches surface as runtime errors, not anything caught earlier. Tests are written and run in GDScript itself, so you inherit GDScript's lack of static typing guarantees for your test code, and there's no built-in coverage reporting — you're on your own for knowing what's actually exercised.
