bvaughn/react-virtualized-select
HOC that uses react-virtualized and react-select to display large lists of options in a drop-down
A higher-order component that bolts react-virtualized's windowing onto react-select v1 so dropdowns with thousands of options don't choke the DOM. Useful if you're stuck on a legacy react-select v1 codebase with huge option lists and need the dropdown to stay responsive.
- Solves a real, specific performance problem: rendering a `<Select>` with 10k+ options without mounting 10k DOM nodes
- API surface mirrors react-select directly, so adoption cost for an existing react-select v1 app was low at the time
- Supports async loadOptions and custom option renderers, so it wasn't just a dumb pass-through wrapper
- Explicitly unmaintained since the README's top line — author says issues and PRs may be ignored, no one has taken over
- Hard-depends on react-select v1 (pre-rewrite, pre-hooks) and the now-abandoned react-virtualized, both long superseded (react-select v5, react-window)
- Last push was 2020; won't work with modern React (hooks-only tree, concurrent features) without real surgery
- No TypeScript types in the repo itself — anyone on a modern stack needs to shim or fork this rather than just install it
