// the take

Claudia Bot Builder is a Node.js wrapper that lets you write one handler function and have it serve chat bots across roughly ten platforms (Messenger, Slack, Alexa, Telegram, Twilio, Skype, Viber, Line, Kik, GroupMe), deployed to AWS Lambda via Claudia.js. It's aimed at developers who want a quick multi-platform bot without writing per-platform webhook and parsing code themselves.

Normalizes very different message formats (Messenger events, Slack slash commands, Alexa intents, etc.) into one common shape so a single function can handle all of them. Deployment really is a few CLI commands thanks to tight Claudia.js/API Gateway integration, no server to stand up. Each platform integration has its own dedicated parse/reply/setup spec file, so test coverage per platform is more thorough than you'd expect. It also exposes platform-specific richness (Slack delayed replies, Facebook template messages, Skype custom messages) through documented builders rather than just flattening everything to plain text.

Last pushed in April 2022 and built on Claudia.js, which is itself unmaintained — Lambda runtimes, AWS SDK versions, and every platform's API have moved on since, so some of these webhook integrations are likely already broken without anyone noticing. The README admits you can't run it locally in any easy way, which makes iterating on bot logic slow. The platform list is frozen at the 2018 messaging landscape — no Discord, no WhatsApp Business, no Teams, which is where most new bot traffic actually is now. The single-handler model has no built-in session or state management, so anything beyond stateless one-shot replies means bolting on your own DynamoDB or similar yourself.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
