// the take
A LoRA fine-tuning toolkit for Stable Diffusion that bundles low-rank adaptation with Dreambooth-style prior preservation and pivotal tuning inversion (joint LoRA + textual inversion). Aimed at people fine-tuning SD 1.5-era models on consumer GPUs who want small, shareable checkpoints instead of full model dumps.
Goes beyond a bare LoRA implementation by combining it with pivotal tuning and prior-preservation Dreambooth in one CLI (lora_pti), which was genuinely ahead of what diffusers shipped at the time. Ships practical CLI tooling for merging LoRAs with each other or with a full checkpoint at arbitrary alpha ratios, plus SVD distillation to compress an already fine-tuned model down into LoRA form. Also handles format conversion to A1111-compatible ckpt/safetensors, which mattered a lot for interop in 2023.
Last commit is March 2024 and the README itself admits diffusers absorbed native LoRA training shortly after this repo took off — most of the reason to use this instead of mainstream diffusers has evaporated. Everything is built around SD 1.5's UNet2DConditionModel; there's no SDXL or newer-architecture support and none is coming. No tests or CI, so compatibility with current diffusers/torch/xformers versions is unverified and likely broken by now. The LoRA file format it produces predates the format diffusers standardized on, so outputs aren't interchangeable with the rest of the ecosystem without conversion.
