Voice & Video Calling and Text Chat App for Flutter
CometChat's Flutter UI kit adds prebuilt chat, voice, and video calling screens to an app, with a sample app and an AI-agent sample app to start from. It suits teams that want in-app messaging quickly and are willing to build on CometChat's hosted backend rather than their own.
Because this is a UI layer, you can restyle or replace individual components without rewriting the messaging logic underneath, and the sample app shows the wiring end to end. The sample app's integration tests are unusually deep for a repo this size, with dozens of suites covering the composer, polls, reactions, threads, pagination, calls, and an accessibility audit helper, plus per-platform run scripts. The repo also ships an AI skills directory for consumers and contributors, which is an unusual thing to find in a UI kit.
Messaging, presence, calls, and storage run on CometChat's hosted service, so the parts most likely to fail under load or on a bad network are the parts you can't read in this repo. The integration tests need live CometChat credentials, so they can't serve as an offline safety net. The README tells you to type an Auth Key into the app's credentials screen and says nothing about token-based auth for production, which is the first thing you'd need to change before shipping. The README is mostly a pointer to the external docs site, and the directory tree we got is truncated, so the package's own code is hard to judge from here. With 564 stars and 42 forks at version 6, the outside contributor base looks small.
