// the take

ComfortableMexicanSofa is a Rails engine that bolts CMS functionality — pages, templating, an admin area, revision history — onto an existing Rails 5.2+ app rather than running as its own standalone application. It's for Ruby/Rails shops that want an embedded, admin-managed content layer inside a real app, not a headless or decoupled CMS.

It's a genuine Rails engine, so it mounts into an app's existing routes and models instead of taking over the whole stack the way a WordPress-style CMS would. Content Tags give you server-side templating placeholders with revision history, so non-developers can edit pages and you can roll back mistakes. Multi-site support from a single install plus i18n across 20+ locales is more than most embedded CMS gems bother with. It's also been around since the Rails 3.0 era with a stable public API, so the integration patterns are well-worn.

The bundled WYSIWYG editor, Redactor, is commercially licensed (the README specifically thanks a contributor for donating an OEM license) — an unusual legal dependency to inherit through an open-source gem. Setup isn't just 'add gem': it needs ImageMagick installed system-side for image resizing and a separate pagination gem (kaminari or will_paginate) that isn't bundled. The content-serving route has to be registered last in routes.rb or it silently swallows every other route in the host app — a footgun that fails quietly rather than loudly. It's tightly coupled to Rails views/ERB-style rendering with no API-first or headless mode, so it's a poor fit if the front end needs to be decoupled from Rails.
