Taste global original animation
AnimeTaste is an Android app for discovering and downloading independent, non-mainstream animation, built by a solo Chinese developer around 2013 and squarely aimed at that audience rather than a general one. It's a full client app, not a library, bundling playback, downloads, and social sharing into one codebase.
It ships its own M3U8 playlist parser under utils/m3u8 for HLS segment handling instead of just leaning on a player SDK, and the download manager (the Alfred package) is built around a Mission abstraction with separate listeners for notifications and persistence, which is a decent separation of concerns for a one-person project. It also does real integration work wiring up half a dozen-plus Chinese social platforms (Weibo, QQ, WeChat, QZone) through ShareSDK, something most hobby projects skip entirely.
Every third-party dependency is a jar checked straight into libs/ instead of pulled from Maven (ShareSDK, a Picasso snapshot build, AVOSCloud, Umeng), so nothing here builds or updates cleanly by modern standards. Several of those dependencies are services that are effectively dead outside China today, including the Baidu T5 player SDK and AVOSCloud push, meaning core features like video playback likely don't function if you try to run this now. There are no tests anywhere in the tree, and the README is Chinese-only with just a partial English mirror, which makes the project rough to approach without reading Mandarin. The architecture is pre-Jetpack Activities with no dependency injection or view-layer separation, so any meaningful change means editing a monolithic Activity class.
