Facebook-style lightbox, built in jQuery
Facebox is a jQuery plugin from 2010 for opening images, HTML fragments, or remote pages in a modal overlay. It's a piece of web history rather than something to build on today.
The API is dead simple — rel="facebox" on an anchor tag and you're done, no build step or config required. It supports three content types (image, div, ajax) through one consistent entry point, and the event hooks (reveal.facebox, close.facebox, etc.) give you real extension points without touching the source.
It's built against a global jQuery object and old-school box-shadow/RGBA CSS from the IE7/8 era — there's no npm package, no module system, and the last push was 2024 but the code itself hasn't meaningfully changed since 2010. It depends on a bundled jquery.js in lib/ rather than a peer dependency, which will fight with any modern jQuery version already on the page. No tests, no build tooling, no accessibility handling (focus trapping, ARIA, keyboard escape) that you'd expect from a modal in 2026.
