django-commons/django-debug-toolbar
A configurable set of panels that display various debug information about the current request/response.
The toolbar you already know from Django tutorials: a panel-based overlay showing SQL queries, cache hits, template rendering, signals, and profiling data for the current request. It's for anyone developing a Django app who wants to see what's actually happening under a response without reaching for a real profiler.
The panel architecture is genuinely extensible — SQL, cache, templates, signals, profiling, staticfiles are all separate pluggable panels, and third-party panels hook into the same interface. The SQL panel does real query interception with EXPLAIN support, not just a query count. 94% test coverage with CI that includes zizmor for workflow security scanning, and the project has been maintained continuously since 2008 (now under the django-commons org, so it's not a single-maintainer bus-factor risk).
Async support is explicitly called experimental by the maintainers, and they say outright it can't handle concurrent requests — a real limitation if your app is on ASGI. It's middleware-based, so you have to wire it into MIDDLEWARE and INTERNAL_IPS yourself, and it's easy to accidentally leave enabled outside local dev if your settings aren't split cleanly. Version 8.0 requires Django ≥ 5.2, so anyone on an older LTS Django is stuck pinning an older toolbar release with less attention paid to it.
