2D plotting library in Rust for egui
A 2D plotting widget for egui, the immediate-mode Rust GUI library — bar charts, line/scatter plots, box plots, heatmaps, the usual set, rendered directly inside an egui app. It's for people already building a tool in egui who need embedded charts, not a general-purpose Rust plotting library you'd reach for on its own.
The item types cover real ground (line, bar_chart, box_plot, heatmap, points, polygon, filled_area, arrows, span) rather than just a line-chart wrapper with extra flags. It has actual visual regression testing via kittest snapshots in CI, which almost nobody bothers with for a GUI-rendering crate and is the only way to catch rendering regressions in something like this. There's a dedicated performance.rs bench plus performance_lines/performance_markers examples, so someone's clearly tested it against large datasets rather than just toy inputs. unsafe is forbidden crate-wide and the code is split cleanly into items/ and overlays/ modules instead of one giant plot.rs.
The README has no code example at all — just badges and a link to a web demo. For a plotting API you'd want to see the five lines it takes to put a line on a chart before cloning the repo. It only works inside egui's immediate-mode render loop, so adopting it means adopting egui's whole architecture, not just a charting widget — not a fit if you're using any other Rust GUI stack. It was only split out of the main egui monorepo in mid-2024, so its API stability as a standalone crate is unproven, and nothing documents how its versioning tracks egui's own releases, which matters a lot for immediate-mode libs that tend to break together. At 473 stars/107 forks it's effectively a one-maintainer project (emilk) riding on egui's userbase rather than having its own contributor base.
