// the take
A reading list from Latent Space's weekly paper club: ~50 foundational and recent LLM/ML papers, each summarized in a single pun ('X is all you need'...) with a link to the source. It's for ML engineers who want a chronological map of the field's key ideas, not a tool or library.
The one-liner-per-paper format is a genuinely useful compression technique — each entry distills what the paper actually changed relative to what came before, which builds a real mental timeline (attention -> pretraining -> scaling laws -> RLHF -> DPO -> MoE) rather than a flat list. Every entry links straight to the primary source (arxiv/original PDF), not a summary blog post. The one included notes file (Mixture of Experts) shows there's an appetite for going deeper than the one-liner when a topic warrants it.
Despite the repo name, 'notes' plural is mostly aspirational — only one of ~50 entries has an actual notes file; everything else is a single sentence in the README, so it saves you almost no actual reading time. No commits since July 2024, so it's frozen at a specific point in the field's history with nothing on 2025-era reasoning models, agents, or post-DPO alignment work. There's no cross-referencing or synthesis between entries beyond the shared one-liner gimmick, so it functions as a bookmark list rather than a map of how ideas actually connect.
