[ARCHIVE]: Expo Router has moved to expo/expo -- The File-based router for universal React Native apps
This is the old home of Expo Router, the file-based router for React Native/Expo apps (think Next.js App Router conventions applied to native and web). The project has moved into the expo/expo monorepo and this repo is archived, so it's really only useful now for historical reference or migration-era docs.
The docs site source here is thorough, covering React Navigation migration paths (stack, drawer, tabs, links, navigation state) in enough depth to actually port an app. The sandbox and tester apps show real routing patterns — dynamic segments, catch-all routes, nested layouts, shared routes — rather than toy examples. Also bundles expo-head and expo-metro-runtime, so you can see how head management and Metro's async chunk loading/HMR client are wired for a router-aware setup.
Archived since mid-2024 with the actual code, issues, and releases now living in expo/expo — anyone landing here via search will be working from a stale snapshot. No CI runs against current Expo SDK versions, so nothing here is verified to still work. Package versions and APIs referenced in the README (v2, v3 in maintenance mode) are behind current Expo Router releases by multiple majors, so treat any code sample as needing a rewrite, not a copy-paste.
