f/mcptools
A command-line interface for interacting with MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers using both stdio and HTTP transport.
A Go CLI for poking at MCP servers over stdio or HTTP: list/call tools, resources, and prompts, plus run mock, proxy, and guard servers. Aimed at people building or integrating MCP servers who want a faster loop than wiring up a full client.
The proxy mode (shell script or inline command → MCP tool) is a genuinely useful shortcut for prototyping tools without writing a server. Guard mode's glob-based allow/deny on tools/prompts/resources is a real feature, not a toy — wrapping an existing stdio config in `mcp guard --deny write_*,delete_*` is a practical way to sandbox a filesystem or similar server. Supports all three current transports (stdio, legacy HTTP+SSE, streamable HTTP) and the configs subcommand reads/writes the actual JSON configs for VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and Claude Desktop, which is more than cosmetic.
Config scan/sync is explicitly macOS-only, so a chunk of the feature surface doesn't apply on Linux or Windows despite the from-source install path targeting exactly those platforms. Guard mode only works over stdio, not HTTP, which cuts it out for remote server sandboxing, the case where you'd want it most. No authentication support yet (listed on the roadmap, not shipped), so anything requiring bearer tokens or OAuth against a remote streamable-HTTP server is out of scope today. Project scaffolding only emits TypeScript — no Python or Go server templates despite the tool itself being Go.
