Firebase Quickstart Samples for Android

Google's official grab-bag of minimal Android sample apps, one per Firebase product — Auth, Firestore, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions, Messaging, Crashlytics, and so on. It's for Android developers who want to see a working call to a specific Firebase API rather than parse the docs, not for anyone looking for a production app skeleton.

Each product gets its own isolated Gradle module, so you only need to open the one sample relevant to what you're integrating rather than untangle a monolith. Most modules ship parallel Java and Kotlin implementations of the same feature, which is genuinely useful if you're mid-migration off Java. It's maintained by Google directly, with CI on every push (GitHub Actions badge, build workflow in .github/workflows), so the API usage stays in sync with current SDK versions rather than rotting like third-party tutorials do.

Nothing runs out of the box — every sample needs its own Firebase project, a downloaded google-services.json dropped into app/, and manual applicationId matching before you see anything execute, so 'quickstart' undersells the setup tax. The repo is mostly generated Android boilerplate: gradle wrapper jars, per-density mipmap/drawable folders, and default styles.xml duplicated across 15+ modules, which makes the actual sample code a small fraction of what you're browsing. Test coverage where it exists is a single instrumentation smoke test per module (e.g. MainActivityTest) checking that a view exists, not real unit tests around the Firebase logic — don't look here for testing patterns.
