// the take

Freek Van der Herten's personal dotfiles for macOS, tuned for Laravel/PHP work, with an unusually elaborate layer on top for configuring Claude Code and Codex from one shared source. It's for PHP/Laravel devs on Mac, or for anyone who wants a reference implementation of how to wire LSPs and skills into an AI coding agent.

The AI config (skills, agents, settings) lives in one place and is symlinked into both Claude Code and Codex, so you're not maintaining two copies of the same instructions — a real problem most people just duplicate. Wiring Laravel LSP, Intelephense, and the TypeScript server into the agent gives it actual symbol references and diagnostics instead of grep-based guessing. The six-lane review workflow (correctness, simplification, conventions, framework practices, React, security) with dedup and priority ordering is a genuinely useful structure, not just a wrapper around `/code-review`. Tool choices are sensible (zoxide, ripgrep, fd, git-delta) and the install script is idempotent.

macOS-only — Homebrew, Mackup, QuickLook plugins, Valet — so it's dead on arrival for Linux or WSL users. It's deeply personalized to one Laravel/PHP/MySQL stack; adopting it means buying into that toolchain, not just borrowing a `.zshrc`. The skill/agent/plugin system depends on fast-moving Claude Code and Codex internals (plugin loading, LSP-per-extension registration) with no tests on the install or symlink scripts, so a harness update could silently break things. The ops-related skills (`spatie-ops`, Forge, DNS) are non-functional out of the box since real credentials live outside the repo — useful as a pattern to copy, not as something you can actually run.
