Instructions and script to help you create a VirtualBox VM running macOS.
A README plus a shell script for turning a legally-purchased macOS installer app into an ISO you can boot in VirtualBox, covering Yosemite through Big Sur. It's for developers who want a disposable macOS VM for testing (the author uses it to test his mac-dev-playbook Ansible setup) without buying a Hackintosh box or a second Mac.
The instructions are unusually thorough for this kind of project — CPU flags, video memory gotchas, EFI boot-manager recovery steps, and screen-resolution tweaks via VBoxInternal2/EfiGopMode are all things people normally have to piece together from five different forum threads. The troubleshooting section reads like it was written by someone who actually hit each of these problems, not copy-pasted.
prepare-iso.sh is the only code in the repo and it hasn't been touched since 2022, so it stops at Big Sur — no Monterey through Sonoma/Sequoia support, and Apple Silicon Macs aren't addressed at all since this is Intel-only VirtualBox virtualization. There's no CI, no tests, and no way to verify the script still works against current VirtualBox or macOS installer formats without just trying it. It also depends on owning a legitimate macOS installer from the Mac App Store, which itself is getting harder as Apple deprecates older download paths.
