👻 Ghostty is a fast, feature-rich, and cross-platform terminal emulator that uses platform-native UI and GPU acceleration.

Ghostty is a GPU-accelerated terminal emulator written in Zig, with native GUIs (SwiftUI on macOS, GTK on Linux) instead of Electron-style chrome, plus an embeddable libghostty-vt library for terminal parsing/state. Aimed at developers who want a fast daily-driver terminal and at people building their own terminal apps or TUIs on top of a proven VT parser.

Genuinely native front-ends per platform rather than one Qt/Electron shell painted to look native - real SwiftUI settings, AppleScript/Shortcuts support, systemd integration on Linux. Multi-threaded architecture (separate read/write/render threads) with SIMD-optimized parsing gets it into the same performance tier as Alacritty while supporting way more of the modern terminal sequence zoo (Kitty graphics/image protocol, synchronized rendering, etc). libghostty-vt is a legitimately separable, dependency-free C/Zig library with a large set of self-contained examples (30+ dirs covering SGR, mouse encoding, kitty graphics, wasm) showing real API surface rather than one toy demo. Crash reporting built in with documented Sentry envelope format for debugging real user crashes.

Written in Zig, a language still pre-1.0 with breaking changes between compiler versions, which raises the bar for casual contributors and packagers. libghostty-vt API is explicitly stated as unstable/in-flux despite being 'usable today,' so anyone embedding it now should expect breakage. No Windows-native GUI yet, just a build for the ico/manifest/rc plumbing - Windows users are second-class. The 'Ghostty-only control sequences' roadmap item is untouched, so if you want bleeding-edge Ghostty-specific extensions beyond what other terminals already do, there's nothing there yet.
