A marker clustering library for the Google Maps JavaScript API v3.
A per-zoom-level marker clustering library for Google Maps JavaScript API v3, built by Google. It groups nearby markers into numbered cluster icons that split apart as you zoom in, useful for anyone rendering more than a couple hundred points on a map.
The clustering algorithm itself is solid and battle-tested — it handled real production load at Google and is still the reference implementation most other clusterer libraries (Leaflet, MapLibre ports) borrow their approach from. Zero dependencies beyond the Maps JS API, single file (src/markerclusterer.js), so it's trivial to vendor. Configurable via imagePath convention for custom cluster icons without touching code.
Archived since 2019 with no updates — the README itself tells you to go use v3-utility-library's markerclusterer instead, so pulling this repo directly is pointless. No npm package, no module system (no ES modules, no CommonJS), you're expected to download the .js file and drop it in a script tag like it's 2013. No TypeScript types, no tests visible in the tree, and the image-based cluster icons (m1-m5.png) look dated next to CSS/SVG-based clustering in newer libraries.
