🧘 Rewrite of a fully-featured GraphQL Server with focus on easy setup, performance & great developer experience. The core of Yoga implements WHATWG Fetch API and can run/deploy on any JS environment.
GraphQL Yoga is a GraphQL server built on the WHATWG Fetch API, from The Guild (same team behind Hive, envelop, and codegen). It targets anyone who wants a spec-compliant GraphQL server that runs unmodified on Node, Deno, Bun, Cloudflare Workers, or AWS Lambda instead of one written Node-first and ported everywhere else.
Because the core is Fetch-based, portability isn't a marketing claim bolted on with adapters — the same handler genuinely runs on Workers and Lambda without a compatibility shim doing the work. It plugs straight into the envelop plugin ecosystem, so auth, tracing, caching, and rate limiting are already-written plugins rather than things you build yourself against a bespoke hook API. Defaults are genuinely useful out of the box: GraphiQL, automatic persisted queries, and parsing/validation caching are enabled without extra wiring, which is more than most competing servers ship by default. It's also actively maintained — commits within the last two days and a real release cadence via changesets.
Subscriptions are SSE-only in core; if your clients expect graphql-ws over a real WebSocket, that's a separate integration you have to add yourself, not a flag. Federation is supported through separate packages and examples rather than being first-class the way Apollo Server treats it, so gateway setups need more manual assembly. Stacking several envelop plugins makes debugging harder — errors surface with stack traces that run through the plugin chain rather than pointing at your resolver. The README pushes almost everything out to the external docs site instead of documenting core APIs inline, so you're frequently one click away from GitHub for basic usage questions.
