// the take

This is Hack Club's community repo: a pile of self-led coding workshops for high schoolers plus the org's code of conduct and (oddly) its internal nonprofit paperwork. It's for teenage beginners learning to code and for people running or starting an in-person coding club, not for developers looking for a library.

The workshops are real working projects (games, Discord bots, Chrome extensions, Arduino, ML demos) with actual code checked in, not just prose tutorials. It's been running for years with a large volume of contributed content and some workshops translated into Spanish and Portuguese. The org backs this with genuine transparency — board proposals, budgets, and grant applications are public in the same repo, which is unusual for a nonprofit.

There's nothing here to install or integrate — zero library/API value for a developer audience, it's pure teaching material. Workshop quality is uneven since they're written by teenagers of wildly varying skill: some bundle ancient vendored JS (p5.play.js checked in directly) and there's no testing or CI to catch broken tutorials when a dependency or external API changes. Dumping internal fundraising docs and board proposals into the same tree as the workshops makes the repo feel like an organizational dumping ground rather than a focused learning resource.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
