// the take

Ignite is a CLI that scaffolds, runs, and deploys blockchain apps, and it just rebranded around gno.land: `ignite scaffold realm` and `ignite chain serve` spin up a local gno.land dev chain with hot reload on `.gno` file changes. The older Cosmos SDK chain-building tooling (scaffold chain, migrations, SDK/IBC version matrix) hasn't gone away, it's just been pushed under `ignite cosmos` as a secondary surface. Good fit for gno.land smart contract developers, or Cosmos SDK app-chain teams who need scaffolding and dependable SDK/IBC version pinning.

The gno.land dev loop is genuinely nice: a local chain that pre-funds a test account, deploys your realm at genesis, and reloads on every file save, which is a faster inner loop than most chain tooling gives you. The `ignite app install` plugin system lets you extend the CLI (scaffolding generators, deploy targets) without forking it. TypeScript client generation from a realm (`ignite generate ts-client`) saves hand-writing a client against gno's RPC. CI is unusually thorough for a CLI tool - separate lint, unit, integration, and semantic-release checks, plus a nightly build - so regressions get caught before release.

This is a repo mid-pivot: the primary pitch moved from Cosmos SDK app-chains to gno.land, and the README/docs now read gno-first with Cosmos SDK relegated to `ignite cosmos`. If you're there for Cosmos SDK scaffolding specifically, make sure the migration path you need is still a first-class concern, not an afterthought. The Cosmos SDK/IBC compatibility table is a real operational burden - you have to pin an exact Ignite version to an exact SDK and IBC minor version, and the table shows a security-driven deprecation (Dragonberry) in its history, so version drift isn't just inconvenient, it can be a vulnerability. gno.land itself is a young chain relative to established Cosmos SDK app-chains, so anything you build on it inherits that platform immaturity, not just Ignite's.
