jakevdp/sklearn_pycon2014
Repository containing files for my PyCon 2014 scikit-learn tutorial.
This is Jake VanderPlas's PyCon 2014 scikit-learn tutorial: a set of IPython notebooks walking through basic scikit-learn usage, data representation, supervised/unsupervised learning, and model validation. It's aimed at Python beginners getting a first structured introduction to the library.
The notebooks are genuinely well-sequenced pedagogy from an author who's good at explaining ML concepts, and the validation notebook covering cross-validation and grid search still holds up conceptually. Small self-contained exercises with solution scripts (notebooks/solutions/) make it usable as an actual workshop, not just a read-through.
The README itself tells you not to use this repo and points to sklearn_tutorial instead, and it hasn't been touched since 2016. It targets Python 2.6/2.7 explicitly, predates scikit-learn's estimator API changes, cross_validation module removal, and about a decade of breaking changes, so half the code won't run against any current scikit-learn install without rewriting. There's no requirements.txt or environment file, just a suggestion to install Anaconda circa 2014.
