// the take
A tutorial-style fullstack e-commerce app for custom phone cases, built with Next.js 14 App Router, Prisma/Postgres, Stripe, Kinde Auth, and UploadThing. It's a companion project for Josh's (joshtriedcoding) course rather than an attempt at a maintained library, aimed at devs who want a worked example of wiring these pieces together.
Shows a realistic end-to-end flow — Stripe checkout plus webhook handling, UploadThing file uploads, Kinde auth, Prisma/Postgres persistence, and a transactional email on purchase — in one coherent codebase instead of isolated snippets. Uses server actions (actions.ts per route segment) for mutations instead of scattering API handlers, which is a decent demonstration of App Router conventions. The phone case configurator (crop/position/color overlay on a template image) is a genuinely non-trivial canvas/UI problem, more interesting than the typical CRUD demo.
Zero tests anywhere in the tree, so there's no way to tell if it still works after bumping Next.js, Kinde, or UploadThing versions. The 'secret admin dashboard' is just a hardcoded auth check on a route, not real role-based access control — don't copy that pattern into anything real. Last pushed July 2024, and this stack (Kinde SDK, UploadThing, Next 14) moves fast enough that you should expect breaking changes before it even boots. It's explicitly a paid-course artifact (referral link to the course in the README acknowledgements), so don't expect issue responses or ongoing maintenance.
