// the take

A Go library for parsing CCD/C-CDA documents (the XML format EHR systems exchange for patient records) and, per its description, NCPDP and EDIFACT claims formats too. Aimed at Go developers building healthcare interoperability or claims-processing integrations who don't want to hand-roll parsers for these formats.

Test fixtures include real CCD samples pulled from actual EHR vendors (Allscripts, Cerner) plus the EMERGE research cohort and official HL7 reference files — that vendor-quirk coverage is the genuinely hard part of CCD parsing and most homegrown parsers never bother. The CCD package is split by clinical section (medications, problems, allergies, immunizations, results, encounters, social history) instead of one big generic XML blob, so you can pull just what you need.

No commits since January 2019 — the README's claim that it's 'actively developed' because it's used in a medical backend is seven years stale, and there's no sign anyone's maintaining it now. The README also warns the API changes daily and is unstable, so there's no stable surface to pin a dependency against even if you wanted to adopt it. The visible source only shows the ccd package; the NCPDP and EDIFACT support mentioned in the description isn't evident, so that half of the library may be thin or missing entirely. CI is wired to Travis CI, which killed free OSS builds years ago, so the build badge is almost certainly dead and there's no current signal the tests even pass.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
