SASS framework for gentlemen

// the take

Guff is a grab-bag SASS mixin/helper library from 2014 — grid helpers, typography, and a handful of utility functions pulled together from other SASS frameworks the author liked. It's aimed at front-end devs who wanted a lightweight alternative to Bootstrap/Foundation back when SASS tooling was still settling.

The mixin and function set (src/_mixins.scss, src/_functions.scss) is genuinely small and readable — no bloated grid system to fight with, just helpers you drop into existing markup. Compass and Bower support meant it slotted into the era's typical Rails/SASS build pipeline without extra config. The annotated source (docs/guff.html via Docco) is a nice touch for understanding what each mixin actually does instead of guessing from names.

Dead since March 2014 — no Sass module system (@use/@forward), no npm package, nothing compatible with Dart Sass's modern CLI without rewriting the @import statements. Both installation paths it documents, Bower and the `guff-compass` gem, are themselves abandoned technologies, so there's no realistic install path on a current toolchain. No tests of any kind for the mixins/functions, and with 252 stars and a single contributor there was never a community to catch regressions or carry it forward. This is a historical curiosity, not something to add to a real project today.
