keystonejs/keystone-classic
Node.js CMS and web app framework
KeystoneJS classic (v4) is a Node.js CMS built on Express and Mongoose, with an auto-generated admin UI for managing MongoDB-backed content models. It's aimed at teams who want a batteries-included CMS/app framework rather than hand-rolling admin screens, but this is the pre-rewrite version aimed at people already on the v4 line, not new projects.
The field-type system is genuinely useful — declaring a schema gets you validation, formatting helpers, and matching admin widgets (image resize, Google Places address lookup, relationship pickers) for free. The admin UI is a real, functional React app (Redux + sagas), not a thin wrapper, and it's been battle-tested across thousands of production sites. Config is flexible enough to defer route/list setup until runtime, which matters for larger apps with cross-cutting concerns.
It's archived — the README says so in bold at the top, meaning no security patches, no bug fixes, nothing. It's welded to Mongoose/MongoDB with no realistic path to a relational database, which is a dead end if you need transactions or joins. The Yeoman-based scaffolding (generator-keystone) is itself an abandoned toolchain. Anyone finding this today should be pointed straight at Keystone 6, which this repo explicitly recommends in its own header — there's no reason to start a new project on this.
