DARKLINGS is an accessible F2P 2D fighting game with periodic updates (using Rollback Netcode).

A Unity 2D pixel-art fighting game with rollback netcode built on GGPO, released free on GameJolt. It is aimed at developers who want to see how deterministic simulation and rollback fit together in a real Unity project, and the author states it is meant for educational use.

- Deterministic physics and animations, plus a fixed 60 FPS logic tick, are the hard prerequisites for rollback. The README lists them as core features, and rollback projects often go wrong at exactly this layer.

- The netcode has been shipped. The README points to a numbered release (0.2.13), a stable and development branch split, and a public GameJolt page with about 3.0k views, so the code has run under real players.

- The online test loop is practical. It uses ParrelSync to run two editor instances and Clumsy to add artificial latency, so lag behaviour can be reproduced on a single machine.

- The last push was in September 2024 and the README pins Unity 2021.3.24. Two years without commits means the project has not followed later Unity or GGPO changes.

- The only usage statement is 'do not use it for commercial purposes without permission'. That is not an open-source license. You can read and learn from the code, but building a product on it requires the author's sign-off.

- Testing is manual. Online play is checked by pressing number keys in two editor windows, and the README mentions no automated netcode or determinism tests. Rollback desyncs are subtle, so that gap matters to anyone building on this.

- The Assets folder bundles third-party Pixel Arsenal demo prefabs, materials and projectiles, each with its own license terms. Those need checking before reuse, and they make the game's own code harder to find in the tree.
