Build and deploy Go applications

ko is a CLI that builds container images directly from Go source by running go build locally and packing the binary into an image, no Dockerfile and no Docker daemon required. It's aimed at teams shipping single-binary Go services to Kubernetes who want CI builds without maintaining a Dockerfile or a docker-in-docker setup.

No Docker daemon dependency — it constructs OCI images directly, which matters in CI environments where you don't want privileged containers just to build one. Multi-platform builds and SBOM generation are built in rather than bolted on. The .ko.yaml + image reference templating (ko://...) means you can keep Kubernetes YAML pointing at source paths and let ko resolve them to pushed digests at apply time, which is a genuinely useful workflow for `ko apply`/`ko resolve`.

Only works well for the narrow case of static, CGO-free Go binaries — anything needing cgo or OS-level packages needs a real Dockerfile and a different tool. The README itself is nearly content-free; almost everything (get-started, features, FAQ, limitations) lives on the docs site rather than in-repo, so you can't get a real feel for the tool without leaving GitHub. It's also a fairly thin abstraction over existing go-containerregistry internals, so debugging weird build/publish failures means reading Go source, not a well-documented CLI error surface.
