Laravel Scout provides a driver based solution to searching your Eloquent models.
Laravel's official package for full-text search on Eloquent models. It syncs model changes to a search index and sends queries to a pluggable engine, so the same application code can run against Algolia, Meilisearch, Typesense, or a database-backed engine. It suits Laravel developers who need search in an app and don't want to write their own index syncing.
The engine boundary is clean. Each driver implements the Engine contract, so calling code stays the same when you swap backends, though engine-specific features don't carry over. The database engine lets you start without a separate search service, and it has its own vector search path. Search modes are declared on the model with the SearchUsingFullText and SearchUsingPrefix attributes instead of being scattered through query code. Bulk indexing runs through queued range jobs, and the integration suite runs against real engine services (see docker-compose.yml), not only mocks.
Engine parity is uneven. Semantic and hybrid search sit behind SupportsSemanticSearch, so only some drivers offer them. The Algolia3Engine and Algolia4Engine files still ship next to AlgoliaEngine, and the source is the only place to see which one applies. The README lists three drivers, but the tree also has database, collection, and Turbopuffer engines, and the README doesn't explain how they differ. Sync runs through model observers, so bulk updates through the query builder never reach the index unless you call searchable() yourself. The README is a pointer to laravel.com, so details like queue setup, index settings, and per-driver limits live outside this repo.
