Web tool for Avro Schema Registry |
A browser UI for Confluent's Schema Registry that covers Avro schema creation, viewing, search, evolution, version history, and compatibility settings. It suits teams running Kafka who would rather not use curl against the REST API, and it ships as static files you can serve from Docker or nginx.
- Per-cluster flags in env.js (readonlyMode, allowSchemaDeletion, allowGlobalConfigChanges) let you lock a production registry to read-only while leaving dev writable. Guardrails at the config level are the right place for them.
- Several registries can sit behind one deployment, each with its own header colour, which makes it harder to edit prod while believing you are in dev.
- The Docker image includes a Caddyfile and a proxy option for the CORS problem, so you don't have to change the broker's configuration to get a browser talking to the registry.
- Schema creation, evolution, history, and compatibility configuration live in one interface, so you don't switch between tools for each step of the schema lifecycle.
- The last push was 2024-02-13, more than two and a half years ago. There is no sign of recent work on newer Schema Registry versions, so verify behaviour against the version you run.
- The license is BSL, which is source-available rather than OSI open source. Read its terms before using it at work.
- The README covers only Avro. Confluent's registry also handles Protobuf and JSON Schema, and nothing here suggests the UI does.
- Cluster config is a hand-written env.js global, and the README's CORS example sets allow.origin to *. That is fine on a laptop but a poor default to copy anywhere shared. The README also says nothing about authentication, so unless readonlyMode is set, anyone who can load the page may be able to change any cluster it can reach.
