self-hosted media server with a Jellyfin-compatible API

Remux is a self-hosted media server written in Rust that exposes a Jellyfin-compatible API, so existing Jellyfin clients can browse and play from sources Jellyfin does not handle: Stremio add-ons, WebDAV shares, local files, and torrents. It suits people who already use Jellyfin clients and want one library across scattered sources, and who accept the operational and legal exposure that comes with add-on and torrent streaming.

- Staying a Jellyfin-compatible backend means clients such as Infuse and Swiftfin need no changes. Building and maintaining client apps is the hard part, and the project avoids it.

- Music runs through its own pipeline instead of being routed through the Stremio path, so remote music sources are first-class rather than an afterthought.

- Per-user library filtering, where content is excluded per user or libraries are scoped to audiences, is a real feature. Most self-hosted servers treat libraries as global.

- The repo is actively maintained, with a push today, CI for lint, test, build and nightly images, and a .sqlx offline query cache, which means the SQL is compile-checked.

- Track and probe metadata for streamed content comes from RemuxDB, an external service. Without it, audio and subtitle selection for streams is degraded, and the README does not describe the fallback.

- Scope is wide for a 591-star project: Stremio, WebDAV, torrents, IPTV, a music pipeline, a desktop tray app and a Dioxus dashboard. Each path is likely to get less testing, and the Jellyfin compatibility claim is asserted for named clients without a test matrix or a list of unsupported endpoints.

- The Quick Start covers installing and running but not configuration. There is no reference for environment variables or for pointing the server at a Stremio add-on or WebDAV source, so you will need to read the source to set it up.

- The README still has text from another project: the closing line of the AI policy says 'keep Actual focused on what matter'. It is a small thing, but it suggests the docs have not been read end to end.
