An experiment concept for an AI brain.
A tiny proof-of-concept agent that answers questions from a Chroma vector store and falls back to web search (via SerpAPI) when it doesn't know something, saving what it learns back to memory. It's for someone who wants to see a minimal 'agent with long-term memory' pattern, not a lib to build on.
The retrieve-or-browse-then-write-back loop is a clean, legible example of giving an LLM persistent memory without much code — the whole thing is basically one index.ts plus a utils file. Using Chroma as a pluggable vector store keeps the demo honest about being swappable rather than locking you into a hosted vector DB.
Dead since April 2023 — no updates for the GPT-4 turbo/function-calling era, still defaults to gpt-3.5-turbo, no sign it was ever revisited. Zero tests, no error handling visible from the structure (single-file script, no modules for retry/rate-limit logic), and the 'browse the web' capability silently degrades to barely functional without a paid SerpAPI key. Setup requires spinning up Docker for a local Chroma instance just to try a terminal demo, which is a lot of friction for 97 forks' worth of interest. No indication of how memory conflicts, staleness, or dedup are handled as the brain grows.
