Official online flasher for Meshtastic device firmware
The official in-browser flashing tool for Meshtastic firmware, covering ESP32 (via esptool-js), nRF52/RP2040 (via UF2), and now Rockchip-based devices, all through WebUSB/WebSerial with no native tooling required. Aimed at Meshtastic hobbyists and hardware makers who'd otherwise need esptool, nrfutil, or rkdeveloptool installed locally.
Covers three genuinely different flashing mechanisms (esptool protocol, UF2 drag-drop, Rockchip SPL+WebUSB) in one app instead of punting users to three separate CLI tools. The gnarly binary-protocol code — rkusb, image streaming, fastboot, zip handling — actually has unit tests (rkusb.test.ts, imageStream.test.ts, fastboot.test.ts), which is rare for code this close to raw USB framing. Built-in serial monitor means you don't need a second terminal app to check if the flash actually booted.
Hard-dependent on WebUSB/WebSerial, so it's Chrome/Edge-only with zero Firefox/Safari support, and the README doesn't warn you about this until you hit the wall yourself. The repo has scope creep well past 'flasher' — a Google Apps Script survey backend, Datadog RUM, analytics plugins, feedback components — none of which belongs in a tool whose job is writing firmware to a device. Rockchip support ships prebuilt .bin SPL loader blobs committed straight into public/rockchip with no documented source or build pipeline, so you're trusting opaque binaries. README is pure landing-page copy with zero architecture notes — nothing on how device detection, chunking, or the flash state machine works for a contributor coming in cold.
